Residence Life

Living on campus is the best way to participate in campus life. Our residence halls are safe neighborhoods containing hundreds of potential friends.

Because the education experience of our students is important to us, and we know that students who reside on campus have a greater chance of academic success, WVU requires freshmen to live on campus their first year. Exceptions to this include students who live at home with parents within a 50-mile radius of WVU, students who are married, who have children, or are 21 years old.

WVU offers coed and single-gender housing options, and you can choose between larger and small settings. The most recent addition is our innovative residential college experience, which allows freshmen and upperclassmen to live in residence halls where they benefit from in-depth academic guidance and opportunities for special social and cultural activities.

Here are some of the features of residence hall life at WVU:

  • Peer tutors are available right in the halls if you need help.
  • Each floor has a Resident Assistant, an experienced student to help you navigate life at WVU.
  • Every residence hall has at least one Resident Faculty Leader (RFL), a WVU faculty member who lives next to the hall. The RFLs plan special activities, host trips to concerts, ski resorts, and major cities, and are your advocates, mentors, and friends.
  • For your peace of mind, someone is on duty 24/7.
  • International House is a hall where international and domestic students can learn about each other’s cultures.
  • Basic connections in WVU-owned halls include voice mail, basic cable TV, a phone with local calling, and Internet access.
