Community Service

Service is a major part of WVU's mission. WVU is among only 6 percent of U.S. colleges and universities – and the only school in West Virginia – recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for community engagement.

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) coordinates WVU's community service activities. Visit their website to find volunteer opportunities and events like the annual Week of Engagement. Service activities not only benefit the community, but also help build your resume and meet others who share your interests.

Service Learning
As a WVU student, you can receive academic credit for community service. Through its GOLD (Get Out and Learn by Doing) program, the CCE works with departments to create service courses that match learning objectives with community needs.

iServe Online Service Management System
The CCE’s new iServe software allows you to create a personalized account, search hundreds of available service opportunities, and place yourself with agencies and projects, and track your service hours online.

Other Opportunities
If you want to serve the community, you will find countless ways to get involved. All student organizations – from club sport teams to fraternities and sororities – do community service. Some groups, such as Alpha Phi Omega co-ed service fraternity, devote most of their time to community service. You can also participate in residence hall service programs or University-wide projects.
